Day 3 of Apple's WWDC25 in Cupertino marked a major turn towards a novel design philosophy across all its operating systems. Dubbed Liquid Glass, the redesign brings with it an entirely new visual language that spans iOS, macOS, iPadOS, watchOS, tvOS, visionOS, and CarPlay. Apple also put emphasis on more extensive AI‑powered capabilities and increased developer access to its on‑device intelligence models.

Liquid Glass: Apple's Most Ambitious Redesign Apple unveiled Liquid Glass, its most sweeping interface redesign since the flat design of iOS 7's aesthetics. The glass-like, translucent aesthetic is centered around visual depth, dynamic lighting, and seamless transitions between apps and widgets. Developers discovered in labs and sessions how to apply this new UI to apps—from tab bars and panels to notifications—unifying the look across devices.

Apple Intelligence Expands On Day 3, Apple highlighted enhancements to its AI family—Apple Intelligence—across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Watch, and Vision Pro. Some of the new features include live in‑call translation, enhanced visual intelligence to deliver context for what's on screen, image features like Genmoji and Image Playground, and additional integrated Shortcuts. Most significantly, developers now get access to on‑device foundation models via a new API, enabling private, offline AI‑powered app functionality.

Practical Upgrades: Spam Filtering & Call Tools Apple introduced new user-focused features designed to make phone use more effortless: Call Screening, to identify unknown callers; Hold Assist, to mute hold music and alert users when agents answer; and real-time call and FaceTime translation. These features position Apple to more directly compete with existing Android functionality while maintaining privacy and user control.

Ecosystem Enhancements & Smart Home Push Along with the UI and phone enhancements, Day 3 was the day of productivity and home‑tech innovation. iPadOS is adding resizable, tiled app windows now—macOS erasing the distinction. Apple also unveiled EnergyKit, enabling Home app integrations that optimize electricity usage—thermostats, EV charging, and smart appliances based on dynamic pricing and clean‑energy signals. These innovations extend Apple's influence beyond devices into everyday infrastructure.
